The Broward-Dade Safety Council, a private, not-for-profit 501(c) 3 agency providing drug, alcohol and traffic education and related services to teens and adults. The original organization was created by the Florida legislature in 1968 and incorporated in Broward County, Florida in 1969 to provide alcohol information, education and referral services.

It has expanded over more than 40 years to provide a range of services including:

  • New driver classes for first driver license applicants.
  • Basic, intermediate, advanced and aggressive driver improvement classes ranging from 4-12 hours.
  • Mature Driver Coaching classes.
  • Substance abuse education classes for people who have been charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) offenses involving alcohol and/or other drugs. The DUI program involves 12 hours of class for a first offense and 21 hours for clients with two or more DUIs and a one-hour private evaluation/interview to determine if counseling is appropriate.
  • Substance abuse evaluations both voluntary and court ordered.
  • Special Supervision Services for clients whose driving license is suspended and their driving record requires such supervision for their license to be reinstated.
  • Ignition Interlock Device services ranging from a basic program orientation to case management plan development and monitoring.
  • Drug education (PTE): "Club Drugs and Marijuana".
  • Scared Sober/Victim Impact Panel Classes in cooperation with MADD.
  • 4-hour Divorce and Parenting Class court ordered for parents seeking a divorce.
  • Safety classes and programs are being developed as new services to meet private, commercial, industrial and government needs in the greater Broward and Miami-Dade community.

The Council, the Broward Traffic School, and the services provided are governed by the laws and rules established by the legislature of Florida, with regulatory authority given to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Local leadership, oversight, and policy are provided by a volunteer Board of Directors.
